Computer Network Systems

WHAT IT MEANS:
The Information Technology Association of America has defined Information Technology (IT) as "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT is an academic discipline that affects most businesses and industries. Its progressive evolution, due to the advancement of computers and communication technology, continues to have a profound impact on our lives.

One area of Information Technology is Computer Network Systems. Computer networks are an integral part of the environment of most businesses. People who understand networking help maintain the flow of information that keeps a company running smoothly by, among other things, connecting users in different locations. This could involve selecting, configuring and troubleshooting systems that use various media and devices that interconnect different systems and platforms into one common data sharing infrastructure.

WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU:
In 2002, the Information Technology Association of America projected that hiring managers expected 1.1 million technology job openings for that year, and that these managers would not be able to fill almost 600,000 of these jobs due to a shortage in qualified workers.

As a computer network systems technologist, you could help meet the demand for technically competent individuals. Companies use network systems technicians to help upgrade computer systems and develop wide area and local area network capabilities. If you're a problem solver, a troubleshooter and a good communicator, computer network systems is an IT area you might like to pursue.

The Computer Network Systems program in the School of Information Technology at ITT Technical Institute can help students prepare to perform tasks associated with upgrading computer systems and developing wide area and local area network capabilities. This program explores a variety of computer networks. Additional curriculum topics, investigated through classroom theory and practical applications in a laboratory environment, include network operating systems and network systems design and implementation. This program can help graduates begin careers in a variety of entry-level positions in various fields involving IT and computer network systems. These may include such positions as network administrator, WAN specialist, web server administrator, Linux specialist or network technician.

This program is available at the following campuses. Please select a campus to learn more about this program.
